Presented here is a 1977-79 Thurman Munson signature model Hillerich & Bradsby S44 Louisville Slugger game used bat. This bat carries elite historical significance, dating from a time that followed back-to-back World Championships at the end of Munson’s life. The tragic loss of Thurman Munson in a plane crash caused Yankees fans the type of anguish that only Gehrig's departure four decades earlier could match. Munson's death on August 2, 1979, brought an end to the life and career of one of the most beloved Yankees of the post-war era and marked the beginning of an uncommonly long and difficult era of struggle for the sport's most successful franchise. This key piece is one of just a handful of known late-career Munson bats. The bat shows heavy use with half of the handle missing. A length of thirty-five inches (35") and weight of 28.3 ounces (28.3 oz.) are correct for Munson's factory ordering records. Authentication by PSA/DNA.
